Exhibition Statement (provided by the artist)

Painting is not a great release of stored energy for me; instead, it is the opposite of ecstasy. A great amount of energy is gathered, withheld and lost in the creation of a painting, and I control it consciously in this way. The painting becomes the byproduct of this compression. My body of work is the result of this consumption for its own sake, and the humor of a painting as a product of a process blurs the line between production and consumption.

About the Artist (provided by the artist)

Hank Ehrenfried is New Jersey born and raised but now resides in Charlottesville, VA. He received his BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA in 2014 where he studied painting and writing. He loves to laugh, paint and, most of all, laugh at paintings.
