From October 1-November 10, 2027 New City Arts will present an exhibition by Alma Molina.

The American Conquest / La Conquista de América, Alma shares, “is a video and installation project based on anonymous slides from a 1969–73 journey through Latin America. By interweaving archival images with personal testimonies, the work reflects on memory, identity, and the politics of history. The exhibition invites viewers to engage with these images as both visual records and material artifacts carrying affective and political weight.”

Alma Rayen Molina (she/her) is a chilean visual artist and cultural worker based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her practice weaves together video, photography, and text to explore themes of migration, spirituality, feminism, and collective memory. Drawing from personal and political experiences, her work creates spaces where everyday life intersects with imagination and social critique. Recent projects include Samsara, a video-based reflection on cycles of fear and growth, and La Propia Network, a podcast amplifying the voices of women artists. Through art and dialogue, Alma builds networks that challenge precariousness while affirming creativity, resilience, and the power of community.

Located at 114 3rd St. NE on Charlottesville’s downtown pedestrian mall, New City Arts’ Welcome Gallery supports artists who live in the Charlottesville area. Welcome Gallery exhibitions and programs are made possible by generous sponsors, donors, and grants. Interested in sponsoring an exhibition? Connect with us!
