We are dedicated to supporting artists as they lead the way forward. And we are committed to transparency, accountability, and upending the traditional power dynamics of arts institutions. Here, you’ll find our most recent 990, Impact Report, and Guidestar Profile.

Our comprehensive approach to supporting Charlottesville area artists goes beyond our gallery walls to provide artists what they say they need: funding, free studio space, paid residencies and fellowships, artist grants, and opportunities to connect, learn, and create.

Last year, with over 50% of our revenue coming from individuals, we presented 12 exhibitions, supported 150 artists, distributed $90,061 to artists, and engaged 7,555 participants in 59 free or low-cost events. Your generous support directly impacts the artists living and working in our community.

  • Yes! Our 3 year strategic plan (2026-2029) was co-created with artists and community members and sets our sights on:

    1) Improving New City Arts operations and infrastructure for healthy, sustainable, and equitable growth.

    2) Strengthening our artist programs by going deep not wide.

    3) Facilitating coalition-building efforts to advance the value of artists and the arts across Charlottesville.

Email maureen@newcityarts.org if you’d like to discuss our strategic plan over coffee or tea.

  • New City Arts works with Brown Edwards & Company, L.L.P. to prepare our 990 and Form 102. An independent accountant runs our payroll and reconciles our books. As a small organization, we contract with an auditor to do a formal independent financial review every 3 years because full audits are cost prohibitive for organizations with operating budgets under $500,000.
