Raised/Razed: Film Screening and Q&A with Lorenzo Dickerson and Jordy Yager

On Thursday, March 23 at 7PM, join us at Welcome Gallery for a screening of “Raised/Razed” followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Lorenzo Dickerson and Jordy Yager. Space is limited for this free event, and an RSVP is required.

This film screening is sponsored by The Photographer’s Green Book and was organized in partnership with Jay Simple, whose installation Razed To Be Born Again is on view at Welcome Gallery through March 31, 2023.

About “Raised/Razed”:

“Raised/Razed” is a documentary film, written and directed by Lorenzo Dickerson and Jordy Yager. The film explores the history of Vinegar Hill, Charlottesville’s oldest African American neighborhood and a thriving center of business and culture destroyed by racially discriminatory policy and Urban Renewal. Drawing connections between Vinegar Hill and Durham’s demolished Hayti neighborhood, Raised/Razed lays bare the hard truths and lasting impacts of the federal Urban Renewal program locally and across the United States.
