REVERSE OPENING: “Essing, Fawning, Gawping, Hocking, Isling, Jostling, Keening, Legging, Moping, Nodding, Ooling, Putzing, Querling”

Join us for a reverse opening on April 21, 2023 from 5:00-7:30PM for Essing, Fawning, Gawping, Hocking, Isling, Jostling, Keening, Legging, Moping, Nodding, Ooling, Putzing, Querling, an installation by Conrad Cheung.

During the “reverse opening”, the public will be invited to enter into a contract in which they may take home a piece from the exhibition if they agree to send periodic documentation of its use after the exhibitions as well as any suggestions for future queer furniture forms they may develop. This documentation will be collected to inform future iterations of the project.

The event is free and open to the public, refreshments will be served. All ages are welcome. This exhibition includes sculpture with forms derived from children’s toys and books that invite play and participatory performance.

Located at 114 3rd St. NE, Welcome Gallery is downtown, storefront art space in Charlottesville, VA, run by New City Arts Initiative, a non-profit community arts organization. This same location houses NCAI staff offices and a studio space.
