The 12th edition of Charlottesville SOUP will be held on Monday, June 24 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Doors open at 6:30pm, dinner starts at 7:00pm. Applications to present and the ticket lottery for attendees are now closed.
SOUP is a seasonal public dinner series to support creative projects right here in Charlottesville. At each SOUP, attendees give a $10 donation and in return they receive soup, salad, bread, dessert āand a vote.
During the meal, community members make short presentations about their creative projects in need of funding. Attendees participate in a dialogue about the proposals over a nourishing meal in handmade bowls by local artists from City Clay.
At the end of the meal, each attendee enters a voting booth to cast his or her vote for which project to fund with the money raised from the meal that night. Weāll award the grant right then and there. Consider SOUP an experiment in civic engagement and a chance to play a role in supporting creativity in our community.
Charlottesville SOUP is a program of New City Arts and made possible by generous community sponsors: The JLRS Family Fund, Albemarle Baking Company, Champion Brewing Company, City Clay, Ting, Trinity Episcopal Church, Ellie Cooks, Festive Fare, Fleurie Restaurant, JM Stock Provisions, Bread & Roses, Lauren Stonestreet, The AV Company, Blue Ridge Floral Design, Bold Rock Hard Cider, Whisper Hill Farm, Lauren Stonestreet Photography, Tavola Restaurant, and Bruce and Donna Lovett.
Special Matching Grant
Ticket proceeds and a $500 grant from a generous anonymous donor bring the minimum artist grant awarded at this June's SOUP to $1,400. Our community partner Ting Charlottesville is offering a $1,000 matching grant. Each donation made toward the artist grant will be matched 1:1 (up to $1,000), meaning that the grant could reach $2,500 (or more, with additional donations made toward the grant!) to fund a Charlottesville artist project.
