Mark-Making with Carol Barber

You're invited to a mark-making workshop with September exhibiting artist, Carol Barber. Participate any time between Monday, September 21 through Friday, September 25 from the comfort of your own home (or from anywhere—we might recommend taking the opportunity to spread out a picnic blanket in the sun). This workshop is free and is open to all ages and all skill levels.

To participate:

  • Any time between September 21 and September 25, watch Carol's five-minute tutorial demonstrating three mark-making techniques that she has used this year.

  • Set aside some time to make your own piece responding to an emotion or a current event.

  • Share your work with Carol and the New City Arts community on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #communitymarkmaking. If you don't have a social media account, feel free to send your work to us via email.

    A note from Carol:

Even though I haven’t seen you in person I have still enjoyed connecting with you through exhibiting at the Welcome Gallery this month.

the final week of the show, I would like to see some of your mark making in response to an emotion or our current times. To do this please post your work as a photo on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #communitymarkmaking. In your description please state your materials and the emotion or something to which you were responding. These can be quick and simple. I made a video showing three new-to-me mark making techniques that I have been using this year.

Feel free to try those out for your post. At the beginning of the video I said we would post these together on a Padlet app. but I decided Instagram and Facebook were easier. I can’t wait to see your creations this week! Email me with any questions: carolsart@hughes.net.
