Sad Songs for Valentine's Day

Join New City “Hearts” at Welcome Gallery for a very special Valentine’s Day concert! Artist-in-Residence Juliana Daugherty will perform a set of original melancholy songs in honor of the most sentimental of holidays. Alone together, we’ll pine for yesteryear, revisit bygones, and reconnect with our inner teenage angst. Lonely hearts and happy couples welcome!

Artist-in-Residence Juliana Daugherty, a white woman with blonde shoulder length hair in a half-up hairstyle, wearing a black scoop-neck shirt, looks off to the side wistfully as she strums on a guitar. Out-of-focus bookshelves are seen behind her.

Juliana Daugherty is a vocalist and flutist for local folk/pop outfits Nettles and the Hill and Wood. As a solo act, she offers a distinctive, well-wrought brand of bedroom pop. Her debut collection, Light, attends to human insights with musical range and fragile but resolute lyricism, sparkling with instrumental flourish and overlaid with the poignant, powerful gravitas of Daugherty’s voice. Light is due out later this year from Austin-based independent label Western Vinyl.
