Sophia Chaudhry
Artist Fellow
Sophia Chaudhry (she/her) is a South Asian artist and leatherworker born in Virginia Beach,VA, currently working in Charlottesville. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture Degree at Virginia Tech in May of 2024 and her work navigates where the boundaries of art and architecture converge. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in a way of making that waits on and relies on nature- not only through leather but a variety of mediums- serving as a fragmented discourse, exploring themes of memory, identity, and community. Her meditative art is a form of protest, urging us all to reconsider our relationship with consumption and to reawaken a deeper awareness of the material world that surrounds us.

Sophia is a 2025 New City Arts Fellow. During her Fellowship, Sophia will investigate the relationship between architecture, materiality, and social context. Through leather sculpture, how can she push the boundaries of intimacy amongst humans and objects in an architectural setting?
