Mara Sprafkin

Mara Sprafkin is a Brooklyn native. She holds a BA from Bowdoin College and an MFA from Columbia University. She has exhibited throughout the United States and locally at both Second Street Gallery and with New City Arts. Sprafkin was a 2013-2014 Artist-in-Residence with New City Arts at the Haven and has been a Community Fellow with The University of Virginia’s International Residential College. Mara is the founder of the New City Artist Exchange, an annual artist-led program that brings together Charlottesville artists to create and exchange a unique set of artwork with one another.
Sprafkin is a trained printmaker having studied printmaking at both Bowdoin and Columbia. She has assisted master printers at Columbia and at Pace Prints Ink. She has also worked curatorially in Prints & Illustrated Books at The Museum of Modern Art. Sprafkin made a giant shift when she started exclusively working digitally on her iPad after the birth of her son in 2015.
