Emma Block (she/her) is an emerging choreographer and movement artist who grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia. She recently graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Anthropology, Environmental Thought & Practice, and Dance. Although she spent the majority of her life training to be a ballerina, her works over the past few years have attempted to transgress and challenge such Euro-Western dance forms and aesthetics. Alternatively, through her performance-making practices, she seeks to draw understandings from Indigenous methodologies and Bayo Akomolafe’s theorizing (among others), rooted in her Choctaw heritage, while simultaneously grappling with her majority European-American ancestry.
