Daniel Goans
Artist-in-Residence, Artist Interview, Featured Artist
The moment that Daniel realized that his NBA dreams weren’t happening, he shifted all of his drive and focus to music. Although this pivot happened a bit later than you might imagine, he was still young enough that his earliest songs examined the intense social pressures of middle school. These songs have thankfully been lost to time, but he has not stopped creating since those pre-pubescent ditties. In 2012 he married his collaborator, and their band @lowlandhum was born shortly thereafter. They’ve toured internationally, shared the stage with the likes of Josh Ritter, Jesca Hoop and The Oh Hellos, and spent more hours together than almost any two people anywhere, ever. Their albums and performances have garnered praise from NPR, Paste, the Washington Post and more. When Lowland Hum isn’t touring or recording, Daniel can be found producing albums for other artists, chopping wood, burning yard waste and writing songs. At concerts Daniel is known for his improvisational songs, in which he extemporaneously navigates the mines of his memory and passing thoughts, toggling between humor and vulnerability so rapidly and deftly that sometimes even he is emotionally confused when the song comes to a close.
