Benita Mayo is a visual artist based in Charlottesville VA. She is a an active member of the Charlottesville Black Arts Collective and a resident artist at the McGuffey Art Center. Mayo holds a B.A. from UVA; and she was a Fellow-in-Residence at the UVA Equity Center. Mayo is drawn to beautiful vistas and the collective female experience, as seen through the lens of black woman living at the intersection of memory and ancestry. Mayo was the winner in the 23rd Julia Margaret Cameron Award for "Women Seeing Women" category. Mayo’s work has featured on the cover of Zeke Magazine. She has exhibited in venues across the U.S and Europe.
