Exhibition Statement (provided by the artist)
Things is a new body of work consisting of paintings, drawings and prints based around a small vocabulary of common themes. Accompanying the exhibition are sets of multiples including silk-screened prints, t-shirts, canvas bags, books, and printed posters. The work that encompassesThings uses a small set of recurring objects (feet, hands, everyday objects, flowers, water) with each object chosen for its shape, symbolic meaning or both. This vocabulary of everyday objects and occurrences is intended to be humorous, boring and honest. The pieces are inspired by editorial illustrations, children’s book drawings and 1960s Pop Art. In creating multiples and working within this small set of themes, the exhibition is an exploration and celebration of the everyday.
