Exhibition Statement (provided by the artist)

“Landscape and Weather” explores periods of transition: her sister’s adolescence and her father’s struggle with aging and grief. As an undergraduate, Elise has had two solo shows at Ruffin Gallery, received her BA in Studio Art with distinction, and has an upcoming feature in U.Va.’s V magazine. Moving forward, she plans to continue building her portfolio and pursue graduate studies in photography.

About the Artist (provided by the artist)

Elise Sokolowski is a photographer from Charlottesville, VA. After graduating last spring from the University of Virginia, she spent this past year as an Aunspaugh Fifth Year Fellow in the Studio Art department. Living and studying in her hometown, the work has centered on her family as she photographs the people and places she knows most intimately.
