Exhibition Statement (provided by the artist)

Gaslight engages with the idea of making a portrait of someone who doubts her own memory and perceptions, exploring how the effects of chronic illness can echo a kind of psychological abuse. Each photograph of Hogeman's mother considers this ongoing loss of self, articulating moments of disorientation and anonymity.
