New City Reads: “Tell Me How it Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions”

Come read with us! For the 2026-27 exhibition season, we’re asking each exhibiting artist for a book recommendation. We’ll discuss, eat yummy snacks, and consider the book in relation to the art. Facilitated by local arts educator Emily Hagan Lazaro, New City Reads (aka book club with art) will be time to look, listen, and extend our thinking together. All are welcome.

This month, we’re reading:Tell Me How it Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions by Valeria Luiselli, recommended by March/April exhibiting artist Stephanie Germosen Salazar.

Join us on Wednesday, March 25 from 6-7:30PM at Welcome Gallery (114 3rd St. NE). We’ll have light snacks and seltzer to share—feel free to BYO dinner.

Can’t make it this month, but interested in joining for a future New City Reads discussion? Let us know you’d like to receive an email with future New City Reads book selections and event dates.

*Featured books will be available at New Dominion Bookshop for a 10% discount when you mention New City Reads. Additional copies will be available at Central Library.

Questions? Send us an email!

About the Facilitator

Emily Hagan Lazaro is a local art educator. She worked for many years at the Fralin Museum of Art at UVA, where, on occasion, she still teaches. She’s worked at art museums on both coasts, and got her start as a kindergarten teacher. These days, she’s often walking her dogs, Matthew and Marilla, and trying to keep pace with her growing TBR pile.
