The Welcome Wagon
New City Arts and The Garage bring you The Welcome Wagon on March 28, 2011 at The Haven at First & Market.
The Welcome Wagon is led by married couple, the Reverend Thomas Vito Aiuto and his wife Monique, who execute a genre of gospel music that is refreshingly plain. According to Paste, "like many [Sufjan] Stevens-related Sounds Familyre artists, the influence of Testaments (both old and new) glimmers only with a folk-pop veneer—in this case a parlor guitar, a plastic glockenspiel and, of course, some many-tenored arrangements."
Given their already established relationship with Brooklyn Jubilee, a portion of Welcome Wagon's proceeds will benefit The Haven, a safe and welcoming place for the homeless and very poor of Central Virginia to be during the day.
Nettles will start things off at 8 PM. Doors will open at 7 PM. Tickets are $10 (cash or check only).
The Haven is located at 112 West Market St., on the corner of 1st and Market St.-- across from the Hill and Wood Funeral Home. Parking is limited but available (just give yourself some time to find it.)
