Derrick J. Waller is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia and has spent his whole life in the great state of Virginia, currently residing in Charlottesville.
Derrick works in information technology at Care Hospice, a Charlottesville based hospice company providing compassionate, comprehensive care to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Outside of work, Derrick's expressive outlet is photography, where he finds great joy in documenting candid moments of everyday life. Derrick is a founding member of the Charlottesville Black Arts Collective and his work has been featured nationally in the New York Times, NPR, Runner's World and Trail Runner Magazine along with various galleries and publications in Virginia.
Derrick's connection with New City Arts began with two projects in 2021 - gallery photos for Tobiah Mundt's amazing show, Held Breath, and documenting the 7x7x7 Summer Series. From here, he fell in love with the vision, mission, and values of the organization and is most looking forward to helping diverse audiences have meaningful encounters with art. When Derrick doesn't have a camera in his hand, you will find him spending time with his beautiful wife, Sarah, and wonderful children, Josephine, Warren, and Grace.
