7x7x7 Interview Series, Exhibiting Artist
JaVori Warren (she/her) is an oil painter from Long Island, New York based in Charlottesville and Northern Virginia. She focuses on portraiture and representations of Black people with particular regard for politics and history. Warren received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Studio Art and Government from the University of Virginia in the fall of 2020. Most recently, she was a 2021-2022 Artist-In-Residence under the Freeman Artist Residency.

This exhibition will deploy site-responsive installation, drawing and projection to explore relationships between medium and content, past and present, individual and collective memory.
From November 3-22, New City Arts, supported by UVA Arts & the Office of the Provost & the Vice Provost for the Arts, will present an exhibition of prints by 5th Year UVA Aunspaugh Fellows, Maddie Butkovich + Claire Szeptycki.
Through mixed-media installation and vignette storytelling, this intimate exhibition explores the decomposition and evolution of a specific memory from the artist's childhood, re-contextualized under immigration growing pains and the multiplicity of compounded grief.
The 7x7x7 Series asks 7 questions to 7 Charlottesville artists and is published once a week for 7 weeks. This interview features JaVori Warren.
