Autumn Jefferson
Exhibiting Artist
Autumn Jefferson uses her identity as a Black American to explore tensions existing in, and pushing against, systems that are designed to contain an individual’s state of being. Her artistic exploration urges her to find meaningful connections to the natural world by breaking down forms and reassembling them. Autumn draws formal inspiration from the intricacies of plants and landscapes that she’s been immersed by. Her work heavily incorporates layered elements that blend together to raise questions of connectivity and what is “real”. In the search for understanding these relationships, often exploring key elements of identity becomes forefront.
Autumn is an Aunspaugh Fellow at the University of Virginia where she graduated with a B.A. in Studio Art in 2024.
