Somé Louis is a Charlottesville-based conceptual artist working in embroidery, collage, installation, and performance. Her work explores concepts of memory, history, and identity through conventions of cherished rituals, objects, and observations of the mundane. She often works with antique materials and creative methods, considering relationships with collective history and the passage of time.
Louis holds a BA in Studio Art and Art History from Wellesley College, and is an active participant in a number of Charlottesville creative projects. She has completed residencies and exhibitions at New City Arts, Second Street Gallery, University of Virginia Libraries, and McGuffey Art Center. She is a current member of McGuffey Art Center and holds an active studio practice.
