Exhibition Statement (provided by the artist)
Blue Black Black and Blue is a visual poem about the pain that comes with being Black and how we must turn that pain into joy.
I am so blue
I am so black
I am bruised
so I create
My black is not her black
not his
it is ours
Melanin drips
And feels
And survives
Suffers
And moves
We breathe life
We breathe pain
We are JOY
About the Artist (provided by the artist)
Tobiah Mundt is a self taught fiber artist who left the field of Architecture for sculpture. She uses needle felting, wet felting and rug tufting techniques to produce dreamlike figures and colorful forms.
She is the co-owner and creative director of The Hive, an arts and crafts bar in Charlottesville, Virginia where she teaches fiber arts, blurring the line between art and craft.
Tobiah has exhibited her work in Texas, Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
