Exhibition Statement (provided by the artist)

Blue Black Black and Blue is a visual poem about the pain that comes with being Black and how we must turn that pain into joy.

I am so blue
I am so black
I am bruised
so I create

My black is not her black
not his
it is ours

Melanin drips
And feels
And survives
Suffers
And moves

We breathe life
We breathe pain
We are JOY
