In December 2024, New City Arts will present an exhibition of work by Christen Yates and Jacqui Stewart Lindstrom.
This exhibit will feature wood sculptural work (Jacqui Stewart Lindstrom) and abstract landscape paintings (Christen Yates). Incorporating materials from thoughtfully harvested sources, this exhibit will demonstrate how, when we put our hands to the wood and dirt of this earth, we are reconnecting ourselves to one another and our common source.
Raised on the North Shore of Boston, Christen Yates attended the University of Virginia and later completed graduate studies in theology, art & sustainable development in Vancouver, BC. Since moving back to Central Virginia in 2014, she has exhibited both locally and in various venues from Cape Ann, MA to the San Francisco Bay area. She's held artist residencies on Vancouver Island and in the highlands of Texas and her work has been acquired by the University of Virginia’s School of Commerce. Christen works out of her home studio on a small farm at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains.
Jacqui Stewart Lindstrom is a maker, artist, and designer working in wood, metal, and stone, amongst other materials. She aims to facilitate, through form and function, connection and the sharing of stories between people, cultures, and the world in which they exist. Jacqui was raised in a surrounding county of Charlottesville, Virginia. In 2019, she received her BFA in Craft and Material Studies, with focuses in wood, clay, and metals, from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia before returning to live and work in the Charlottesville area.
Located at 114 3rd St. NE on Charlottesville’s downtown pedestrian mall, New City Arts’ Welcome Gallery supports artists who live in the Charlottesville area.
