Photo Walk and Discussion with Ben Fey

Since photography was a daily practice for Ben W. Fey during his 2024 daily photography project, a lot of the photographs that he made are from his home and neighborhood. “The art of seeing beauty around us doesn't have to involve traveling to picturesque locations,” Ben shares. “Beauty is all around us.”

With this in mind, Ben invites you to join him for a photo walk around Charlottesville’s downtown mall on Saturday, April 12 from 10AM-12PM. Participants will first meet at Welcome Gallery to discuss Ben's 2024 daily photograph practice and the exhibition. After this short discussion, the group will leave the gallery and go on a photo walk around the downtown mall area, making photographs of what they see. The group will then meet back at the gallery and share what they noticed through photography, projecting the photographs they made on a screen and discussing the beauty they saw.

Space is limited and an RSVP is required to attend this free event. Participants will need to bring their own camera or device for making photographs. Questions? Email Lindsey.

Ben’s exhibition, On seeing + being: presence in the midst of anxiety, is on view at Welcome Gallery from April 4-19, 2025.
