Happy Birthday, New City Arts!

It's true! This month we officially turn 10. When we imagined celebrating a decade of working with and learning from artists and community members, we had in mind a big birthday party complete with cake and ice cream, party hats, and story-sharing.

Since we can't have you all over to Welcome Gallery right now, we're bringing the party to you! Below, you'll find a birthday hat template from Annie Temmink, a cake recipe from Brittany Fan, and a way to share your favorite New City Arts memories with us.

Make a Party Hat with Annie Temmink!

Charlottesville costume-maker, sculptor, illustrator, SOUP voting booth builder, and friend of New City Arts, Annie Temmink, created a template for your new favorite party hat—complete with a how-to video! All you need is paper, a printer, scissors, and some tape or glue

Find the hat template and written directions here and watch the how-to video here. Once you've created your hat, we would love to see photos! Post photos to Instagram and tag @NewCityArtsInitiative or email them to us.

Birthday Cake, Anyone?

Brittany Fan is a New City Arts board member and Charlottesville artist whose disciplines include (but are not limited to) painting, photography, graphic design, and illustration. She is also a top-notch baker and made a birthday cake in honor of our 10th birthday. Want a slice (or two)? Read on for her favorite recipes.

From Brittany: "I used the King Arthur Birthday Cake for the cake itself (and added celebratory sprinkles!) and this recipe for the frosting (doubled, with an extra cup of powdered sugar to frost a two tiered cake). For chocolate lovers, I would add that my favorite anytime cake is the Texas Sheet Cake. This carrot cake is pretty great, too."

We Would Love to Hear from You!

As we celebrate 10 years of New City Arts, we would love to hear your stories. Share memories of your favorite moments, exhibits, events, snacks, and puns with us using this form. You're also welcome to email us!

I'll Give to That

As we celebrate the first 10 years of New City Arts, we're also dreaming about and planning for the future. Your generosity of presence, creativity, high-fives, volunteer time, shared coffee and treats, encouraging words, and financial gifts—make New City Arts possible.

We need your continued support to continue this work. Would you consider making a donation in honor of our 10th birthday?
