Inspired by our friends at Springboard for the Arts in Minneapolis, New City Arts and The Bridge are together launching an Emergency Relief Fund for Charlottesville-area artists, seed funded by The FUNd at CACF and program support from each organization.
In the current Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, artists as independent workers and creative people engaged in travel and exchange may be especially affected. This Fund supports Charlottesville-area artists who have lost income due to the cancellation of specific, scheduled gigs or opportunities (commissions, performances, contracts, other jobs/loss of income) due to Coronavirus/COVID-19 precautionary measures.
ARTISTS: APPLY FOR EMERGENCY RELIEF FUNDS
We have allocated all the funds we have been able to raise for the Emergency Relief Fund. We are actively fundraising and will continue to process submitted applications and fund them as we are able. We have allocated $48,250 to support 167 artists in the Charlottesville area. We are incredibly grateful to generous supporters who made this possible and who support Charlottesville's creative economy.
Thank you to all who have made a donation to the Charottesville Emergency Relief Fund for Artists. You have made it possible to disburse $46,750 to 162 Charlottesville-area artists! As the pandemic continues to impact us all, we are continuing to receive artist applications and accept donations.
You can meet some of the recipients here.
As of this week, we have disbursed $41,050 to 145 Charlottesville-area artists. 92 donors including The FUNd at CACF, The Bridge, New City Arts, The Seven Society, the photographers and participants of Cville Porch Portraits, and individuals have given generously to make this possible (see below for acknowledgements).
We continue to receive applications to the Fund and will continue to disburse funds as we are able.
Since launching the Charlottesville Emergency Relief Fund for Artists with The Bridge on March 20, we have disbursed $22,825 to 80 Charlottesville-area artists. Meet some of the recipients here.
The Fund began with $6,000 created through seed funding from The FUNd at CACF and program support from each organization. Since then, 68 generous individual donors and Cville Porch Portraits (who are donating 50% of proceeds) have contributed an additional $17,000. Thank you. We continue to receive requests as more artists are impacted by the pandemic. Currently, we have $19,000 in outstanding requests. With your help, we can expand the pool of funds available to Charlottesville-area artists who have lost income as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since March 23, the pool of funds available to Charlottesville-area artists has increased from $9,500 to approximately $15,600. In addition to the initial seed funding from The FUNd at CACF, The Bridge, and New City Arts, we've received support from 38 additional donors and the Cville Porch Portraits project. However, demand from Charlottesville-area artists continues to grow. We have received over 110 applications for $28,750 in requested funds. We continue to fulfill qualifying requests as we are able in the order they were received, but are only able to fulfill about 50% of requests at this time. Please consider expanding the pool of funds available to Charlottesville-area artists who have lost jobs below.
Through seed funding received from The FUNd at CACF, in addition to program support from New City Arts and The Bridge, the Charlottesville Emergency Relief Fund for Artists was launched on March 20, 2020 with $6,000 to provide in emergency relief for artists in the Charlottesville-area. In less than 24 hours, those funds were requested and are being disbursed. Over the weekend, we received an outpouring of donations from $25-$1,000 to expand the pool of funds to approximately $9,500. However, demand from Charlottesville-area artists continues to grow, and we are currently only able to fund about 75% of the qualifying requests we have received. We are actively fundraising and encourage requests to keep coming in. We will fulfill requests as we are able in the order they were received.
