Lowland Hum is a art-folk duo made up of husband and wife, Daniel and Lauren Goans. Daniel and Lauren were 2014-2015 New City Artists-in-Residence at The Haven.
Over their prolific musical career, the band has garnered critical acclaim from NPR, The Washington Post, The LA Times, Huffington Post, American Songwriter and more, their lyrics noted as poetic and evocative, their arrangements praised as minimal but dynamic. Creators of the #SupportQuietMusic movement, the band maintains that in an increasingly polarized and noisy cultural moment, vulnerability is powerful and restraint stands in welcome contrast to new, bombastic norms. The duo splits their time between their small cabin in the countryside outside of Charlottesville, Virginia and their van out on the open road. Their new full length album, Glyphonic, will be released in the spring of 2019.
Resident artists Daniel and Lauren Goans of Lowland Hum created a playlist from Haven guests’ favorite songs. The playlist aired during quilting sessions in order to introduce an element of surprise akin to the serendipity of hearing one’s favorite song play over the speakers in a grocery store or some other common public space.
