From May 2010 - May 2017, New City Arts ran The WVTF and Radio IQ Studio Gallery.
Through 7 years of monthly exhibits, New City Arts and WVTF featured 75 exhibits with work by 207 unique artists. Together, we were able to create a new venue to exhibit local artists while we built community through cross-sector collaboration.
This partnership laid the groundwork for New City Arts to open a dedicated, downtown art space (Welcome Gallery) in 2015.
From 2015-2017, New City Arts continued to host exhibits at WVTF and Welcome Gallery each month, in addition to running our other core programs. From 2016-2017, a New City Arts Curatorial Fellow facilitated exhibits at WVTF in partnership with UVA Arts. This partnership provided an opportunity for a college student to gain hands-on experience in arts administration through exhibition planning, artist outreach and research, and community arts engagement.
In summer 2017, we decided to focus our curatorial efforts on one gallery and work with WVTF to find a new community arts partner for their great location on Charlottesville's First Friday Art Walk.
"We're excited to be a part of New City's growth, and it's exciting to see them thrive. We're thrilled to work with Chroma to continue to provide opportunities to build community through the arts." - Cynthia Gray, WVTF Music and Radio IQ
