From July 11-July 31, 2014, New City Arts presents “Souvenir,” mixed media work by Charlottesville artist Laura Snyder at The WVTF and Radio IQ Studio Gallery.
"Souvenir" is defined as both an object kept as a reminder of a place or event and as the act of remembrance itself. This exhibition is a counter-atlas that navigates the spaces between memory and fiction; archive and erasure. While referencing botanical drawings, maps, and expeditions, the drawings in the exhibition obscure recognizable landmarks and shift perception. Repetitive mark making and patterning further reference the passage of time, ritual, and the commodification of experience.
Presented by NPR, WVTF and Radio IQ, and New City Arts, our exhibit opening reception is sponsored by Feast! and Early Mountain Vineyards. The WVTF and Radio IQ Studio Gallery is located at 216 W. Water Street.
