From August 6-12, 2021 at Welcome Gallery, The Fralin Museum of Art presents Expressing Identity: Works from Summer Studio at The Fralin, featuring works by Zaharra Colla, Katherine Flores, Bryan Guzman, Elise Hatschbach, Katarina Love, Raquel Monroe, Jane Ormsby, Jasmine Gonzalez Rollins, Olivia Trager, Christy Wang, and Molly Woodfin created over the last 6 weeks in The Fralin's new teen studio program centered on drawing strength from identity.
Designed to support the artistic expression of young emerging artists from Charlottesville and surrounding counties, Summer Studio offers high school students a place to develop their unique artistic voice. Using feedback and suggestions gleaned from peer and group discussions, personal storytelling, and cultural experiences—each student has created work that communicates something important about their story, who they are, and what matters most to them. 2021 Summer Studio Teaching Artists include Tori Cherry, Aimee Hunt, Samantha Pagni, Jaison Washington, and Mary Katherine West.
In order to accommodate families with kids under the age of 12 who are not yet eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine, and in accordance with the most recent CDC guidance, masks are required at all times during The Fralin's exhibition at Welcome Gallery in August.
