From November 1-22, 2019 New City Arts, supported by UVA Arts & the Office of the Provost & the Vice Provost for the Arts, presents cloudwatching, an exhibition of works on paper and sculpture by Anna Morgan.
ARTIST STATEMENT
cloudwatching is a series of new works on paper and sculptures that reference various themes and forms. My work comes from observing nature and idiosyncrasies of life. It comes from noticing details in my surroundings that are often overlooked, such as electrical wires, sidewalk cracks, oil stains, light through leaves, clouds, and morning shadows, and thinking about how all these facets of life come together to create joyful symphonies.
My process informs my concept: staining and crafting papers in an unknown, haphazard way that allow the final product to be a surprise—a coming together of materials to comprise a controlled chaos inspired by everyday objects and experiences.
